Discovering Brain Health Decline Caused by Lack of Blood Flow
Imaging like MRI and CT show new injuries and can predict future attacks and decline.
Brain injury may be present without being detected on traditional imaging systems.
Measuring electrical activity of the brain in people who do not have notable injuries on imaging can show slow brain waves and decline in voluntary movements. This is an indication of disease in the underlying brain tissue.
Brain health can be tested by activating parts of the brain with magnetic stimulation. Results show how well the brain responds to electrical stimulation. TIA reflects altered brain response to stimulation even without injury to the brain.
Further research is needed to determine patient outcomes in the long-term.
